Parents from across California pulled their children from class Monday, October 18, 2021, to attend a rally protesting mandated COVID-19 vaccines for California children.

While school officials denied seeing a dent in school attendance, news reports showed that more than 1,000 people gathered on the Capitol steps to protest the governor’s decision to include children in statewide COVID vaccine mandates. Another crowd gathered outside the Sonoma County Office of Education.

“I do not co-parent with the government,” one protestor told NBC Bay Area news crews. California Gov. Gavin Newsom made his state the first to mandate the vaccines for children.
